How much water should I drink?
Needs differ with body size, activity, weather and diet, because food and other drinks count too. Many health authorities use roughly 2 to 2.5 litres of total fluid per day for adults as a general guide. Thirst and pale-yellow urine are useful everyday signals. If you have a medical condition, ask your doctor what is right for you.
Make it a habit
- Start the day with a glass before coffee or breakfast.
- Keep a bottle in sight on your desk or in your bag. Refill it at fixed times.
- Link it to meals. One glass with every meal adds up quickly.
- Flavour it naturally with lemon, mint or cucumber if plain water bores you.
